Cheering and clapping filled the entire bowling centres over the 4 days at Orchid Bowl, Orchid Country Club and Orchid Bowl @ SAFRA Yishun during the National Age Group Championships 2011. A premier bowling championship targeted at local youth keglers, this event continued to attract 700 youth keglers below the age of 21 from various schools islandwide.
Participants from various schools including Anglo-Chinese School (Junior), Sembawang Primary, Methodist Girls School, Raffles Institution (JC) and National Technological University came forward to this annual bowling championship.
Participants had to compete in the Singles, Doubles and Quartet events where the top 18 boys and top 12 girls per division would qualify to the Masters based on the total of 10 games.
Our development squad bowler and 1st Asian Youth Games Singapore 2009 silver medallist who did not achieve outstanding results during the Under-18 qualifying for the Singles, Doubles and Quartet events overcame all odds and topped the Under-18 Masters and surprised everyone with her outstanding achievements in the final lap.
“I bowled quite badly in game 3 and 4. At that point, my mum encouraged me to take it easy and just bowl as per usual.” Said Ilma. “I guess her support and encouragement helped me to concentrate on the game which pays off.”

This year's National Age Group Championships saw an excellent performance by youths from various schools without domination and provided a golden platform for youth keglers to foster comradeship within the bowling fraternity.
