Corporates Join Hands In Support of Earth Hour 2011 on the Lanes

It was nothing but fun and enjoyment for the participants in the FIRST Leisure series of the Canon SuperSeries 3 (2011). Introduced by SingaporeBowling for the first time in this corporate bowling event to provide another avenue for leisure bowlers to bowl solely for pleasure, it also encourages more companies to sign up more teams.

In support of Earth Hour 2011, participants bowled in dim lightings at Orchid Bowl, The Chevrons and also took part in the various fringe activities organised during the fun bowl. In addition, participants also learned about the various innovative business sustainability solutions offered by Canon Singapore for corporates which helps in environment conservation and the ongoing efforts undertaken by Canon regionally to support Earth Hour 2011.

Organised jointly by Canon Singapore and SingaporeBowling, the leisure series will be held over 4 rounds and the competitive series will be held twice to continue to cater to the more serious and competitive bowlers.

Join us in the 2nd Leisure series of Canon SuperSeries 3 (2011) on 29 April 2011 at Orchid Bowl, SAFRA Tampines. Sign up today to secure your lot or call us at 6440 7388 for more information.

The Only Asian Bowler in EBT Masters 2011

16th Asian Games Gold and Silver medallist Cherie Tan will be competing in the EBT Masters 2011 from 11 - 12 April 2011 in Bowling Centre Gladiator Arena in Ljubljana, Slovenia, which will be held after Qubica/AMF Open 2011.

Cherie who is currently on an overseas exchange programme will be the only Asian bowler in the EBT Masters 2011. She took over the spot from Priscialla Maaswinkel from The Netherlands who unfortunately had to skip her spot due to a change in her examination date and completed the female division as the 16th female competing bowler.

Cherie is no stranger to competing against european bowlers with her various past achievements which include her coming in third in the Brunswick Ballmaster Open 2010.

She was awarded the SBF Bowler of the Year 2009 for her outstanding bowling achievements, particularly where she led the team to winning the first Team Bronze medal in the 2009 World Women Bowling Championship for Singapore.

This will be Cherie's first bowling competition after the 16th Asian Games last November and let's wish her all the best.

National Bowlers Seeking Higher Achievements

SingaporeBowling will be sending seven national bowlers to compete in the 37th Thailand International Open from 12 April 2011. With the exception of Remy Ong, the remaining 5 bowlers comprising of Benjamin Lim, Basil Low, Daphne Tan, New Hui Fen and Jasmine Yeong-Nathan are debutants to this bowling tournament.

Our bowlers will be leveraging on this bowling tournament to hone their skills amongst other regional keglers before our very own Singapore International Open in May.

Look out for more results on singaporebowling.org.sg and let's wish them all the best.

Prominent Alumni & Students

National bowler Cherie Tan was featured as one of the prominent alumni and students in the NUS School of Engineering Open House poster.

A Bowlin' Good Time by Youth Keglers

Cheering and clapping filled the entire bowling centres over the 4 days at Orchid Bowl, Orchid Country Club and Orchid Bowl @ SAFRA Yishun during the National Age Group Championships 2011. A premier bowling championship targeted at local youth keglers, this event continued to attract 700 youth keglers below the age of 21 from various schools islandwide.

Participants from various schools including Anglo-Chinese School (Junior), Sembawang Primary, Methodist Girls School, Raffles Institution (JC) and National Technological University came forward to this annual bowling championship.

Participants had to compete in the Singles, Doubles and Quartet events where the top 18 boys and top 12 girls per division would qualify to the Masters based on the total of 10 games.

Our development squad bowler and 1st Asian Youth Games Singapore 2009 silver medallist who did not achieve outstanding results during the Under-18 qualifying for the Singles, Doubles and Quartet events overcame all odds and topped the Under-18 Masters and surprised everyone with her outstanding achievements in the final lap.

“I bowled quite badly in game 3 and 4. At that point, my mum encouraged me to take it easy and just bowl as per usual.” Said Ilma. “I guess her support and encouragement helped me to concentrate on the game which pays off.”

Youth bowler Tay Hui Chiang who was also the champion in the 41st Singapore National Bowling Championship last November came in first in the Under-21 Boys Masters. Despite bowling consecutively after the Under-18 Masters held on the same day, Hui Chiang held on to the very last minute where his hard work finally paid off to earn him his first title in the NAG U-21 boys masters champion.

This year's National Age Group Championships saw an excellent performance by youths from various schools without domination and provided a golden platform for youth keglers to foster comradeship within the bowling fraternity.

Silver Lining for Twin Brothers
Twin brothers Royce (L) and Ryan Thong (R) from ACS Junior came in second in the U-12 Boys Doubles
