The Singapore Sports Awards, chaired
by Deputy Prime Minister, Co-ordinating Minister for National Security and
Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean met on 20th April, where
the 11-strong committee held a secret ballot after picking the finalists for
the various categories.
Singapore Bowling is proud to have
three nominations for the award. Daphne Tan for Sportswoman of the year,
William Woo for Coach of the Year and Team of year, consisting of New hui
Fen, Daphne Tan, Cherie Tan, Geraldine Ng, Jazreel Tan and Shayna Ng.
The results for the awards will be
announced at the presentation ceremony on 29th May 2012 at the
Swissotel The Stamford.
While winners of the various awards
in previous years were announced shortly after the meeting, awards organising
committee chairman Low Teo Ping said “The committee brainstormed and felt
that there were merits to this format” he added “It gives the nominated
athletes and the awards the formality and recognition they deserve (and)
provides an element of mystery that builds up to a crescendo on the awards
night”.
The awards this year are dominated
by swimming (four finalists), sailing, wushu and bowling (three finalists).
